What is a "Community Team," and why should I form one?

A community team is a novice racing team that comes together solely to have a blast competing with other teams. (Fun, right?) Anyone can form a team, so gather your friends, your coworkers, your family - whoever you want in your boat - and bring them along a fun, collaborative experience unlike any other.

Dragon boat paddling is a fun and inclusive activity that enables paddlers of all ages and fitness levels to take part. Your team will practice working together to power their boat in unison, and gain strength by working as one. Beyond being fun, the experience is a great way to strengthen relationships as you come together for a new kind of challenge.

  • We will arrange to take your paddlers out for two practice sessions before race day - usually scheduled in June, but we can work with you to identify suitable times. Because we're a volunteer-run organization, our resources are most readily available M-F after work, or on weekends.
  • Every paddler must attend two practice sessions. While it's ideal to have your entire team at both sessions together, we understand that schedules can be tricky, so we'll also work with your team so they can find an alternate session if needed.
  • We supply all the necessary equipment and crew:
    • Dragon boat - holds up to 20 paddlers
    • Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
    • Coach to direct and train your team
    • Steersperson to guide your boat safely
